Hi, i am new here and dont know if i am alone. i was in a construction accident 2 years ago and tore my brachiel plexis nerves. i lost the use of my fingers,and almost all use of my arm. i have hade a stimulator inplanted ,and it helped some. now they are going to inplant a morpmine pump to help with the pain. is it going to help me? wath is the biggest side affect? or should i try to get rid of the whole arm insted ? thank you

Maybe you should try the Duragesic Patch first. It is morphine, you replace the patch every 3 days.

Sweet child, I am so saddened for you. When my infant was born with such severe BPI injury I actually seriourly considered having her arm removed and replacing it with an artifical arm. You are evidently an adult. In my opinion, I think that you should write a letter to Dr. Scott KOzin of Shriner's Hospital in Philly, PA. While he treats only children, I think that he could give you guidance was to what your treatment resources should be.

my son has started on methadone which is an longer acting opiate. It seems to have helped him the most. He is also taking baclofen (sp) and Lyreca (sp). His pain is tolerable if he is given the medicine appropriatly. Morphine really didn't help him. Both medications can cause respiratory depression (you stop breathing) which is the most dangerous side effect. The body becomes tolerant to opiates and so doses usually go up in time. Physical and psychological addiction/dependency are common over time. Constipation and reduced mental alertness. Please see a pain specialist who is familiar with this sort of pain. Michele

Do reconsider the implant of morphine. Beware of the side effect of pain-relieve. It usually affect your other organ such as kidney. I know coz that's what happen to my dad. He used to take high doze of pain relieve (I've forgotten the name of that medicine, sorry).

However, do hang on... keep talking to everyone here and explore on other options.
