Re: Brachial Plexus Doctors
We see Dr. Price (we used to live in NY) and he did our daughter's last surgery. I like him and find him very intelligent and thinks "outside the box".
I've never met Grossman, as we did primary surgery elsewhere (and it was 11+ years ago!).
They are absolutely worth a trip.

Re: New York Presbytarian study
We moved to SC about a year and a half ago and I had to find all new docs. Of course the last on my list was a gyn. I was recommended to a lovely woman by a tennis-playing friend who is an L&D nurse. When I told her my history, she didn't blink. She told me that in med school she was taught abou...

Re: Pain, co-contraction and Botox
We used Botox on Juliana both along time ago and more recently, after a surgery. We were very pleased with the results. I also wondered about what she would lose. I wondered if she would have this floppy arm as the weaker muscles were asked to work. However, that isn't what happened. Yes, there was ...

Re: Scar Massage
I also used to massage the other arm.... her legs... her stuffed animal anything to make it more fun. We also used the silicon patches..the flattened the scar, but I think scar massage is better. And remember, much of scarring has to do with where the scar is, how your child heals, and how the surge...

Re: Seeking surgeon recommendations and general advice
Hi! and welcome to the ubpn's website. Please go to our Medical Resource page. We have many doctors there, with their contact information. I always recommend that new parents get 3 opinions, difficult as that can be. We take our daughter , who is now 11 1/2, to Drs. Kozin, Waters and Price. We have ...

Re: Long Term PT/OT not covered by insurance
We lived in NY, on Long Island, until 16 months ago. Juliana is now 11 1/2, so we were long past EI. However, used EI very successfully for over 3 years. Understand, that although there are guidelines, your county administers it. Nassau county was a generous county. NY County (NYC, Bronx...) was not...

Re: Physio Therapy
I think you need to talk to the surgeon. He/she is the one who writes the orders for how much pt/ot is necessary. And yes, I would push for more. You can do stuff at home while you are waiting for this to change. Toys that encourage reaching (the bar that they lie under and swipe at), toys that have...

Re: Advice please
Tracie: I have to echo Francine's advice. I'm sure you were hoping that your child would have 100% return, really that is not realistic. However, you can't give up at this point and say she won't get any better. Juliana continued to make progress for years. I still expect that she will make some pro...

Re: scoliosis
One of my daughters (not bpi) had (has) scoliosis. She was just under the bracing level and so we treated her by keeping her on a competitive diving team (6 days a week of 3 hour diving training is the best physical therapy). Now she is doing yoga. The specialist we went to checked all of my kids as...

Re: Poll Regarding Secondary or Related Issues
Diana:
You have compiled a very complete list.
You might want to do a search of the website, we have discussed these issues many times... especially since some of them come and go. Some of them stay forever.
You might also want to add: tooth/jaw misalignment and growth.
