Para Long Drive!

Post by Dan »

I competed in this event last week in Mesquite Nevada, home of the world long drive championship. We were invited to do an exhibition of Para "disabled" long drive. There were above knee amputees, below knee amputees, double amputees, arm amputees and me, the one bpi. The leg amputees were hitting it from 300-350 yards, the assisted arm guys (amputees that use a prosthetic to attach to the club) hit it about 250-300 yards and then the unassisted guys hit is 225-265 yards.

There will be another one next May, love to have more bpi'ers there.

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.

My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!

I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".

Hi Dan,

I play alot of golf. Right Arm dominate tbpi. No use at all. 11 yrs ago. But i found a glove i use to velcro around golf club for my affected arm and use to swing with both arms. I will post a link. It definetley helps with balance. I do not hit very far but still enjoy the game way to much to ever stop! I usually play from the senior tees to make it more competitive with my group.

Dan,

Thank you so much for this info. I will make every attempt to join you and this awesome association of golfers. I dont think i can do this year, but i will save vacation time and money for 2018. Who knows, maybe i can swing it this year. It certainly is exciting to know you all are out there.
