Medicalert bracelets

Post by bpiparent »

Hello everyone,

My daughter has an OBPI she is 8 months old. I am new to this and I was wondering if i should get my daughter a medicAlert bracelet. Other than the obvious (pulling her arm or expecting movement) what are the reasons she would need one. I am sorry if this is a stupid question but there are so many things about this injury I don't know.

I would also like to let you know that I have been reading past posts and I am learning so much about what to expect in the future. I want to thank all of you for sharing the information has been invaluable.

Heather

Thank you sooooo much!!!

my injury is as an adult. i have a huge issue with blood pressure, needle pokes, or anything that puts presssure on or breaks the skin on my bpi arm. there is a topic on this board about this subject. i will find it for you. not about the bracelets, but about the use of needles, bp cuffs, etc, i do think the bracelet is a good idea, though.

Hi,

I had the same question. My daughter has an OBPI and I wondered when she was little if she needed something. We didn't until she hit Kindergarten. Preschool you have only one teacher max 2 to tell. Now she's interacting with a lot of adults besides her primary teacher (art, music, PE, ect). If they don't know/realize she has a problem with her arm she can get in trouble for not putting on a jacket by herself or doing something she can't do. At this stage they want kids to be more independent. I'm surprised that teachers don't bother to listen when she explains, I guess they are conditioned to tune out excuses. Now she has an ID bracelet she knows she can someone if she needs help.

Cheers

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.

My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!

I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".
