Re: Explaining BPI to Others
I use it as a way to educate people. I tell them it is birth injury and it is not a birth defect. I explain how it happens. I tell them that the nerves in my arm were torn, ruptured and one was avulsed (torn out of my spinea). I usually tell them it is preventable and it can happen to anyone. I give...

SSD/SSI information current.
Hi: A few years ago I was one of the representatives who attended the Social Security meeting to update the blue book. At that meeting we met one of the Chief Adjudicating Judges and explained our issues with obpi and the problems we face qualifying for ssd/ssi. He requested a change, to the Blue Bo...

Re: ubpn support???
I'm surprised you did not get more support from the TBPI board. They are so good about sharing their journey and medical care. On the adult/obpi most of us are not familiar with all the surgery and probably could only read. I am an adult/obpi and have had no surgery and really could not offer much. ...

Re: Neck Problems?
My neck and shoulders are always tight. Stretching in warm shower or hot tub helps loosen them up. Before a massage, it would be best to warm the muscle with hot towels etc., it seems to loosen the neck and shoulder and makes it easier to massage.
That works for me... hope it helps you.

Re: Update for the "old timers"
Cara Please brag... It's so great to see parents posting about all the things their bpi child can accomplish. Rosalyn had really come a long way from those early days. I am so thrilled for all of you that Dagny is doing so well. I remember all to well when she was born and all the praying. She has d...

Re: questions at work
Erica, It can be very annoying at times when we are questions in public. Since you are working when these questions are asked perhaps you could give out a BPI Assistance Card. On our website we have some medical alert cards. We also have a card explaining what a brachial plexus injury is. You can pr...
