Re: Son with brachial plexus injury and being sent off to college

<t>Hi Brenda Lee,<br/> <br/> I avulsed all five nerves a couple weeks before I graduated from High School, I started college in the fall of the same year, that was back in 1986. At the time we thought the best Dr was in Toronto Canada and I was going to school in San Diego. A month after I started s...

Re: Triathlons

<t>Heddi, when is your Tri or did you already do it?<br/> <br/> Quick update on my training. I am finally getting the miles up, went for a 25 mile ride Friday and averaged 17.1 mph. Fairly flat, but felt good and legs actually held up. <br/> <br/> Ran three miles Sat, 1.5 down hill, 1.5 back up, wou...

Re: Athletic Arm Sling

<t>Hi Cassandra,<br/> <br/> Do you have specific questions about the sling? If you want, you can e-mail me, or just ask, I am sure the people who already have them could do a better job than me in answering how they are using the sling. I am only one person and I think there are 10 who have one now ...

Re: bicycles

If you are going to start riding hard, I would recommend the clip in shoes. If you are training or competing, you want your feet attached to the pedal. Best way to do that is with the clip in pedals.

I would not use the straps.

Re: bicycles

<t>Hi Genevieve,<br/> <br/> I ride a regular road bike, thin tires and all. My left arm is a complete, so I just wear a sling and then ride with one hand.<br/> <br/> I set my bike up just like Heddi, both brakes on right side, it is a tandem bike brake that works both front and back. I also have bot...

Triathlons

<t>OK, there are enough people on here that are doing them to put it up as a topic, for those of you who wonder if you can, hopefully there will be enough examples to let you know that it is.<br/> <br/> I know Robin just finished one and she will be very modest when she talks about it, but I thought...

<t>Hi Teri Jo,<br/> <br/> I am not an expert in the area of what is currently being done in the medical arena, there are others much more current than I am.<br/> <br/> From what you mentioned, it looks like your son has the same movement as I do, bicep from surgery but nothing else. My accident was ...

Re: for the longtimers

<t>Hi Kath,<br/> <br/> I had my accident in 1986 two weeks after I turned 18, similar as you but I haven't had much of the intense hanging pains, which might be that I am always doing movement to help relieve the pain and positioning the arm to help get the pull off the arm too. I also do lots of ne...
