Re: Coping with Palsy as a teen
Miss Elizabeth, I can't believe that you are posting on the boards. Your Mother has prepared you to take on the challenges we face as OBPI. You know how your injury happened, what was done to gain motions and how to speak up, when you have to. Welcome to the message boards. You were such a little on...

Re: awareness for adults having surgery on shoulder area
I try to tell anyone going for surgery to talk to the doctors about the position they are in for anesthesia.
My friends cousin recived a bpi stretch during hip surgery. The position he was in caused it. He is still in PT and pain.

Re: Coping with Palsy as a teen
Never let yourself be defined by your arm. You are a person with an injured arm. You are not an arm with a person attached. I don't remember anyone feeling sorry for me... I don't want any sympathy even now with secondary injuries. Don't ever let this injury take your spirit or take over your life. ...

Judy Been there done that and learned a hard lesson. I don't lift things anymore. I had the emg on the good arm and hated it almost as much as I hate it on bpi arm. He told me to take drugs, get a handicap parking, no repetitive motion. Are ya rolling on the floor laughing now??? I don't take drugs ...

I wear my pewter pin all year round on my right side. I bought one for all of my kids and they all have the car magnets on their cars.

Re: Poll Regarding Secondary or Related Issues
You can also search Sensory Intergrations. It seems to be a big problem for many of us.
I could answer yes to so many of the issues above. A big issue for the children is frustration because they must compensate for the ordinary tasks in life.

Amy You know so much more than I did when I had my children and will be in charge of your birth. I believe you need to speak with your doctor now as to what his protocol is should Shoulder Dystocia occur. If he cannot give your several steps he can take off the top of his head... run to another doct...
