Re: OBPI Teens in the Delaware Area

Hi! My son Ben was Josh's friend at Lake George. How are you all? Ben is 8th grade and plays soccer, guitar and percussion. We live in New York but maybe they'd talk to each other online. Does Josh have a facebook or a cell phone?

Re: football and brachial plexus injury

<t>We had this dilemma when our son wanted to play small fry football. Dr. Kozin of Shriner's in Philly says definitely yes and Dr. Nath of the Nerve and Paralysis center of Houston says absolutely not. Fortunately our son played one season of small fry and then decided to go back to soccer! I would...

Re: New York lawyer

We were represented by Brian Zorn several years ago. He is with Faraci and Lange in Rochester. We were very pleased with him and my son got a very generous structured settlement. He did quite a bit of research about OBPI and is very ethical.

Re: How to respond when kids taunt and make fun of your child

<t>My 12 year old son has a very severe injury and his arm does look quite different. I had the same worries when he was a baby but 95% of them did not come true. Kids just accept him for who he is and actually it's been adults who ask more questions and say stupid things. His experiences are really...

Re: serial casting

<t>We did serial casting for five weeks this fall for elbow contracture of my 12 year old. The first casting was uncomfortable the first day but no complaints after that. If there was any chafing when they took off the cast they would just add extra padding that week and it took care of it. Ben enjo...

Serial Casting

No amount of stretching or splinting has worked so we are going to try serial casting to straighten Ben's elbow. Has anyone else done it? Was it painful?

Re: TIngling on palm of hand after running

<t>My son is 11 and he holds his arm in front of him and hunches to his side when he runs also. It has been frustrating for him because he loves to play soccer and would like to be faster. Also he has strained muscles in his back on his uninjured side when he runs the mile in gym. No tingling though...

Re: Ilizarov Technique

<t>Dr. Nath also recommended my son consider getting limb lengthening for his BPI arm and recommended that we see Dr. Paley in Baltimore. My son is almost 12 and wants righty to look like his uninjured arm so we are going to check it out. I hate to have a surgery that doesn't improve function so I'm...

Re: Having trouble coping

<t>My son is almost 12 and I promise that no time will be as hard as the first year. I too thought about his injury 24/7 when he was little and now I can say that sometimes months will go by without me checking the web site. Your daughter will become someone who is not defined by her injury but it w...

Re: osteotomy before and after

<t>My son had a forearm osteotomy when he was seven. It was the easiest and least painful of all his surgeries. The only time he complained of discomfort was in the recovery room and after four months the pin started poking him in the wrist. The surgery sounds much a lot worse than it actually is.</t>
